Welcome Dorothy Anderson: A New Guide for Spiritual Direction in the Synod

The Grand Canyon Synod is delighted to welcome Dorothy Anderson, known as Dottie or Dorothy, as the newest addition to our spiritual directors’ list. A 2024 graduate of the Sustainable Faith Spiritual Direction program, Dottie brings a Jesuit-influenced approach to spiritual formation, drawing from over 18 years of experience as a psychotherapist and decades as an active Lutheran.

Dottie sees spiritual direction as a sacred space to listen deeply, notice the Holy Spirit’s movement, and journey alongside others as they seek God’s guidance. Rooted in humility and hospitality, her approach invites individuals to relax, reflect, and connect with the Spirit. She offers practices such as contemplative prayer, breath prayers, Lectio Divina, and the examen exercise of Ignatius, tailoring each session to the Spirit’s leading.

A widow since 2022 after 40 years of marriage, Dottie finds joy in nature, music, reading, hiking, and time spent with family and Jesus. She worships and serves at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sun City West, Arizona, and describes herself as a lifelong learner who sees God in all things.

Dorothy is available to rostered ministers and others seeking spiritual direction. If you’re discerning how to deepen your connection with God or navigate ministry’s challenges, consider reaching out to her at andadot@aol.com.
