Spirit of Grace celebrates Adult Vacation Bible School

This August, Spirit of Grace, Surprise, AZ gathered for a study on Swimming with Jonah, developed and presented by Cyndy Warnier, Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center. Each day approximately 65 members and friends enjoyed a coffee and craft hour followed by a presentation by community service organizations with a close with prayers and hymn sing.

"Best Skills Best Churches" Educational Program available

The Episcopal Diocese of Arizona is offering a holistic nonprofit management graduate/executive level certificate program: Best Skills Best Churches. Six classes cover volunteers, laws/legal, human relations, marketing, financial management, and fundraising.

Courses are one each month, beginning this November and ending in April, 2020. One track for priest and pastors runs on Thursdays, another track for deacons and lay leaders runs on Saturdays. The cost is $485 and includes lunch and all course materials.

Las Vegas: One Year Later

In this past year since the horrific events that took place in Las Vegas on Sunday, October 1st, I have had time to process and reflect on those events and the time that I spent with the chaplains, some staff, and others who knew victims of the shooting, and who dealt with the overwhelming numbers of wounded and dying.

Countdown

In five months, the voting members from the 89 congregations of the Grand Canyon Synod will gather for the thirty-first annual assembly. We will meet June 14-16 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Oro Valley, Arizona.

A key assembly decision will be the calling of the sixth bishop of this synod. Work is under way on the "synod profile" that will help inform voting members and others as we prepare for the assembly.
