Nourishing Body and Spirit: How Lutheran Social Services of Nevada is Expanding Senior Meal Support
Lutheran Social Services of Nevada (LSSN) is making a profound impact in the community, from serving record-breaking numbers at their food pantry to launching a new initiative ensuring homebound seniors receive hot, nutritious meals.
One of LSSN’s newest programs, Senior Meals to You (SMTY), aims to bring daily hot meals directly to seniors who cannot leave their homes. To make this possible, LSSN is seeking donations—including vehicle donations—to help expand meal delivery. If you have a car you no longer need, consider donating it to help reach more seniors in need. To contribute, email MJ@LSSNV.org. Together, we can ensure that no senior in our community goes hungry.
A key part of this effort is Chef Dominic, who joined LSSN in December and has already transformed senior dining with his gourmet, home-style meals. His cooking has been met with enthusiastic praise, often reminding seniors of the meals prepared by their own families. With additional funding and resources, LSSN hopes to expand meal delivery so even more homebound seniors can enjoy Chef Dominic’s delicious cooking.
Beyond meal programs, LSSN continues to foster community. BINGO is back, offering seniors a chance to stay socially engaged while enjoying a fun, classic game after a nutritious lunch. January also saw LSSN’s food pantry serve a record-breaking 2,200 individuals, distributing over 70,000 pounds of food—a testament to the power of collective action and generosity.
Finally, LSSN celebrates its Employee of the Month, Dre Green, whose dedication to serving the most vulnerable in our community is an inspiration. His tireless efforts embody the mission of LSSN, demonstrating Christ’s call to serve our neighbors with compassion and care.
