Key Dates and Deadlines for the 2024 Annual Congregation Report

The Annual Congregation Report process is undergoing significant updates for 2024, aiming to simplify and modernize reporting for congregations across the ELCA. Here are the critical changes and timelines to keep in mind:

Mid-January Changes:

Congregations will receive a mailed letter in mid-January containing their congregation ID and password. Unlike in previous years, no printed resources will be mailed. Instead, all resources will be available online at elca.org/reportinstructions, including a generic version of Form A and updated videos.

New Online Platform:

A revamped online reporting system will launch in mid-January at elca.org/congregationreport. This platform will include embedded definitions and instructions, as well as data from the most recent Form A submission for easy reference.

Requesting Customized Forms:

While customized Form A copies will not be mailed, congregations can request them by emailing research@elca.org. Synods will also receive electronic copies of these forms for their congregations.

Upcoming Communication:

On Thursday, December 12, the ELCA will email congregations, SAWCs, and new starts with instructions for the 2024 Annual Congregation Report process. This email will include a link to resources but will not include passwords for the system.

Deadline for 2023 Reports:

Congregations still wishing to file their 2023 report must do so by Friday, December 20, before the current system shuts down. Synods are reminded to print or save all 2023 reports now, as they will no longer be accessible after this date.

These changes reflect an ongoing effort to improve the Annual Congregation Report process while supporting congregations in their mission. As Lutherans, our call to stewardship extends to how we manage our congregational data, ensuring that our ministries thrive and our stories are told with clarity and care.
