Creating Inclusive Spaces: ELCA Disability Ministries at the Extravaganza
We’re Coming to the E! ELCA Disability Ministries Workshops at the 2025 Extravaganza
The 2025 Extravaganza is just around the corner, and we are excited to announce that ELCA Disability Ministries will be hosting two dynamic workshops at this year’s event, taking place January 23-26, 2025, at The Galt House in Louisville, Kentucky. These workshops are crafted to engage, challenge, and equip participants with tools for fostering deeper inclusion and accessibility in their congregations.
Here’s a preview of what we’re offering:
1. D.A.R.E. to Play (Disability Access Resource Experience)
Can all of God’s children fully participate in your congregation’s games and activities? This workshop tackles how to make youth group icebreakers, team-building exercises, and games inclusive for individuals with disabilities or neurodivergence. Participants will explore the “why” of inclusion, learn how to navigate important conversations, and receive practical tools and supply lists to enhance accessibility in their churches. Be ready to have some fun as we demonstrate inclusive activities together!
2. Catechism D.A.R.E. (Disability Access Resource Exploration)
How does our understanding of baptism evolve when viewed through the lens of disability? This workshop dives into baptismal theology, exploring New Testament texts, Luther’s explanations, and contemporary Lutheran worship practices. Discover how people living with disabilities can shape and interpret Scripture, offering new insights into the Living Word of God. This thought-provoking session invites participants to see disability not as an accommodation but as a vital voice in theological interpretation.
Whether you’re a youth leader, a pastor, or a lay member passionate about inclusion, these workshops will equip you to build accessible spaces where all are truly welcome.
Registration for the Extravaganza is open now—don’t wait! Find details and sign up for workshops at elcaymnet.org/workshops.
Together, let’s create a church that reflects God’s radical welcome for all. We hope to see you in Louisville!
