Advent with TENx10: Finding Jesus in Every Pantry Line

This Advent, TENx10 invites us into a powerful weekly journey that asks a provocative question: What Child is This? Week 1 centers on hunger—calling us to see Christ in every child who stands in a WIC clinic line, at a pantry door, or in a family worried about their next meal.

As followers of Jesus in the Grand Canyon Synod, we are rooted in a Lutheran understanding of the incarnation: Christ comes to the margins, not away from them. He is born where animals feed and where parents worry. He is present with today’s immigrant families, especially where the cupboards are bare and lines are long.

Weekly Theme

Week 1: The Christ Child comes where cupboards are bare and lines are long.

He is the one in every WIC clinic and pantry queue.

Week 1 Prayer

Unexpected Christ, who was laid where animals feed, draw near to families whose tables are uncertain. When programs wobble and benefits pause, please cause us to be open-handed and open-hearted, so that our bodies will go to the places we say are important in our thoughts and prayers. Make us to be like “daily bread” for your little ones, as we pray, “your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.” Amen.

As we begin Advent, may we remember that Christ comes to us in the faces of children, in moments of scarcity, and in the longings of families seeking safety, nourishment, and hope. Let us walk this week with open hands and open hearts.
