For the first time in Arizona, the annual Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance Commemoration will take place at Phoenix Symphony Hall on Sunday, April 27, 2025, honoring the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the memory of the six million Jewish lives lost in the Holocaust. This year’s community-wide commemoration, hosted by the Phoenix Holocaust Association in partnership with the Phoenix Symphony, begins at 5:00 PM and will feature a candle lighting ceremony, reflections from Holocaust survivors, a keynote address, prayers and music, the Annual Shofar Zachor Award, and a performance by a Phoenix Symphony quartet.

The event is free to attend, but registration is required at PHXHA.com/remembrance. Please note: enhanced security will be in place, and all attendees must be pre-registered.

In addition to the commemoration, attendees are invited to attend the Phoenix Symphony’s performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis earlier that day at 2:00 PM. Tickets for the concert are available for purchase at phoenixsymphony.org.

As a Lutheran people committed to remembrance, reconciliation, and standing against antisemitism, we are called to witness events such as these with reverence and resolve. Please share this invitation with your congregations, particularly in the greater Phoenix area.
