2025 Assembly Resolutions Due April 28—Here’s What You Need to Know
The Grand Canyon Synod invites the submission of resolutions for consideration at our 2025 Synod Assembly. Resolutions are formal motions presented in writing and provide a vital opportunity for voting members to express direction, make recommendations, and bring forward matters of faith, justice, and church life to the broader body.
All resolutions must be submitted electronically by the close of business on Monday, April 28, 2025. Submissions should be sent as editable documents (such as Microsoft Word files) to Kathye Hamm, chair of the assembly planning team, at khamm@gcsynod.org.
Resolutions must align with:
The constitutions, bylaws, and continuing resolutions of the Grand Canyon Synod and the ELCA;
Parliamentary procedure and Robert’s Rules of Order;
The specific rules and agenda of the 2025 assembly.
The Reference and Counsel Committee will review each submitted resolution to ensure compliance and may invite sponsors to make corrections or clarifications. This review process ensures resolutions are legally and structurally sound before distribution to voting members.
The committee’s final report, which includes all submitted resolutions and recommendations, will be available on the synod website by Friday, May 23, 2025.
While inclusion in the pre-assembly report guarantees distribution, it does not ensure time for discussion or vote during the assembly. The assembly’s agenda will determine which items are brought forward for debate.
This process of discernment and dialogue reflects our Lutheran commitment to communal decision-making and Spirit-led governance. We encourage all voting members and congregations to prayerfully consider what issues may need to come before the assembly—and act now if you feel called to submit.
