Deacon Laura Book

Project Manager of the Synod Youth Advisory Team (SYAT)

Deacon Laura has had her toes in youth and young adult ministry throughout her life starting with Luther League in rural Ohio.  She met her partner while working at a Lutheran camp in Wisconsin.  A few years later, she directed the residential Summer Seminary Sampler for high school students and led multiple vocational retreats for college students at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.  More recently Deacon Laura created a Toddler Time for families with preschoolers, and she currently teaches confirmation classes and plays flute in an intergenerational ensemble at Desert Cross Lutheran Church.  She is excited to share her passion for God’s children with the Grand Canyon Synod. 

Deacon Laura and her husband, Pastor Thaddeus Book, served in Ohio and Pennsylvania prior moving to the Phoenix area in 2021.  During the academic year, Laura is also called to care for high school students in her local special education department.  When the family is not at church or school, they can be found at the ball fields with their two boys.
