Prayers and Support for Los Angeles: How You Can Help Amid the Fires
The devastating fires in Los Angeles have brought destruction and grief to many, including our siblings in the Southwest California Synod. Among those directly impacted are Bishop Brenda Bos and her wife, Janis, who have lost their home. The fires, which continue to grow, are leaving countless others facing fear and loss.
For those who want to make donations, Lutheran Disaster Response is coordinating with the Southwest California Synod, Pacifica Synod, and other partners to assess the needs of people impacted by the wildfires. Gifts to "U.S. Wildfires" will be used in full (100%) to assist those affected by wildfires until the response is complete.
As members of the Grand Canyon Synod, we are called to stand in solidarity and prayer with those suffering. Please take a moment to pray for relief, strength, and hope for everyone affected, as well as for the safety and renewal of the firefighters and first responders working tirelessly in this crisis. During your worship services this Sunday, consider including prayers for those in harm’s way and for the ministries of the Southwest California Synod.
Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) is providing critical support during this time, just as they did for the Pacifica Synod when fires engulfed Lahaina, Maui. LDR stands ready to assist both synods in this unfolding disaster. If you feel called to help, a donation to LDR ensures timely and effective aid to those in need. You can give online at ELCA Lutheran Disaster Response.
As we continue to receive updates, we will share additional ways you can support recovery efforts. Let us remain steadfast in our faith, trusting in the presence of God amid this turmoil. May the God of loving presence be with everyone suffering this day, including Bishop Brenda and Janis.
