Journey Through Advent: Exploring Justice and the Holy Land
This Advent season, ELCA Sumud and ELCA Young Adults invite you to embark on a spiritual and educational journey exploring the Advent story in the context of justice, empire, and occupation. Inspired by Luke 2:7, this pilgrimage reminds us of the humility of Christ’s birth and challenges us to ask, “Who does not have room in the empire?”
Through December, young adults from the ELCA and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL) will offer reflections and educational resources connecting the story of Christmas with the realities faced in the Holy Land today. The program seeks to deepen our understanding of power structures and inspire action grounded in faith.
Key Dates:
November 22: Resources Drop!
December 1 (Week One): “Who Does Not Have Room in the Empire?”
December 8 (Week Two): “Who Is Making Room in the Empire?”
December 15 (Week Three): “How Can We Make Room in the Empire?”
December 22 (Week Four): “Jesus Came to Make Room for Everyone.”
This year marks the fourth annual Advent Pilgrimage in Palestine, offering a space for reflection, prayer, and solidarity with the people of the Holy Land. This is a profound opportunity to connect our Advent preparation with acts of justice and peace.
