Faith in Action: Climate Advocacy and Creation Care

The fight against climate change is deeply tied to our faith, and as Lutherans, we are called to care for God’s creation. This October and November, several key events provide opportunities for us to join in global climate advocacy, learn more about critical climate policy, and take meaningful action.

October 29: NDC Listening Session with ELCA Advocacy

On October 29th, join Christine Moffett from ELCA Advocacy for a crucial discussion on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) at 4 pm AK/5 pm PT/6 pm MT/7 pm CT/8 pm ET. As we near COP29, this session will focus on the U.S.’s role in global climate action and how our faith-based advocacy can contribute to the conversation. Participants will have the chance to provide feedback on how the U.S. should fairly contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Register for the Zoom session here.

November 16: ELCA Creation Care Ambassador Training

Looking to deepen your impact? Consider becoming a Creation Care Ambassador by attending a live, virtual Christian Climate Training on November 16, 2024, from 11:30 am – 3:30 pm ET (8:30 am – 12:30 pm PT). This training equips faith leaders to engage their communities in climate action, fostering hope and collective responsibility. Register for this transformative training here.

Advocacy for Worker Protection from Hazardous Heat

The rising temperatures across the country are endangering workers exposed to unsafe outdoor conditions. To address this, the Department of Labor and OSHA have proposed a “Heat Injury and Illness Prevention Rule” aimed at protecting workers through rest breaks, cooling measures, and access to drinking water. Faith leaders and individuals can voice support by submitting comments on the proposed rule. Learn more and submit your comment here.

These are just a few of the actions we can take together to protect creation and advocate for justice. Stay connected with Lutherans Restoring Creation to learn more about ongoing events, including monthly Climate Crisis Study Groups and a special focus on election season conversations. Together, we can live out our call to care for the earth and one another.
